US-Israel partnership targets development of homeland security technologies – Homeland Preparedness News

The Science and Technology (S&T) Directorate of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and officials from Israel’s Ministry of Public Security (MOPS) tout a partnership to help develop homeland security technologies.

Binational Israeli-American Industrial Research and Development Program for Homeland Security (BIRD HLS) awarded Washington-based White Salmon
Sagetech Avionics and Ciconia of Ness Ziona, Israel are funding two collaborative projects totaling $ 1.5 million.

Officials said the funds were earmarked for the development of advanced first responder technologies and in-flight conflict management systems in the areas of multimedia communication systems.

“The BIRD HLS program addresses critical homeland security challenges shared by the United States and Israel through the joint development of innovative technologies that enhance public safety,” Kathryn Coulter Mitchell, senior DHS official serving as Deputy -secretary for science and technology, mentioned. “We welcome the sixth year of partnership with the BIRD Foundation and the Israeli Ministry of Public Security, supporting collaborative research and development between US and Israeli companies to advance cutting-edge solutions that make both countries safer. “

BIRD Foundation Executive Director Eitan Yudilevich said the BIRD HLS program attracts domestic and Israeli companies while encouraging synergies in developing solutions to meet internal security needs in both countries.

“We look forward to continuing our work with DHS and the Israeli Ministry of Public Security and until the next cycle in 2022,” he said.

Officials noted that a call for proposals for the program’s seventh year is expected to be released in March 2022.
