Oyo Wins Best Overall State in Digital Technology Development

Oyo State set a record by winning all categories of awards at the Ninth Regular Meeting of the National Communications and Digital Economy Council (NCCDE), which was recently held at the NAUWA Event Center, Asokoro , Abuja.

Oyo State has become the best state in human capital development in digital technologies, the best state in digital technology infrastructure development, the second in the implementation of e-government and the best overall state in digital technology development at the 9th ordinary meeting of the National Council for Communications and the Digital Economy. (NCCDE).

The 9th Ordinary Meeting of the National Council for Communications and the Digital Economy (NCCDE) on the theme Using digital technology to accelerate economic recovery in a post COVID-19 era and beyond was chaired by the Minister of Communications and of Digital Economy, Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami.

The program brought together the heads of various parastatals under the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, which include the Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa; Managing Director, Galaxy Backbone, Professor Muhammed Bello Abubakar; Managing Director, NigComSat, Ms. Abimbola Alale; the representative of the Executive Vice-President of the Nigerian Communication Commission, the Postmaster General of NIPOST, Dr Ismail Adewusi; Minister of the CTF, Mallam Mohammed Musa Bello; Science and Technology Commissioners and Heads of ICT Agencies of the 36 states of Nigeria, among others.

During the review session, all states presented their ICT roadmaps to the judges and all participants in three categories: human capacity development in digital technology, development of digital technology infrastructure and implementation. implementation of electronic governance.

Special Assistant to the Governor of Oyo State on ICT and Electronic Governance, Mr. Bayo Akande; while presenting on behalf of Oyo State, highlighted the achievements of the state in each category. For the development of human capacities in digital technology; he mentioned that the OYSG had partnered with Oracle Academy to train computer teachers in all public schools in the basics of programming languages.

“The state is also partnering with Tech4Dev to organize digital skills training for individuals in rural clusters, people with disabilities and other disadvantaged groups, as well as NDPR and digital skills training that has been organized for all state officials.

He added that the Oyo State Government has also developed a framework that would ensure that all civil servants are trained annually on current technological trends and basic digital skills for effective working practices; among other initiatives. At the end of this session, Oyo State became the top state in the Human Capacity Development in Digital Technology category.

Akande highlighted some of the state’s achievements in the area of ​​ICT infrastructure development, mentioning the harmonized fiber infrastructure policy that the state plans to implement in the coming months to enable zero tariff on the right-of-way. .

He also spoke about the Oyo State Infrastructure Management and Control Agency (OYSIMCA) which he oversees as the Managing Director, which is a one-stop-shop for all ICT infrastructure issues and a first point of contact for all ICT service providers who wish to liaise. with the state government.

Regarding the protection of ICT infrastructure, Akande said the OYSIMCA task force responds promptly to any complaints about fiber vandals and illegal infrastructure, adding that the state government has provided high-speed internet connectivity in the entire secretariat. Oyo State has become the best state for the development of digital technology infrastructure.

While speaking on the e-government implementation which won the state, the second finalist, the SA on ICT and e-governance mentioned the various e-government applications and portals such as the Oyo State Employment Portal; Open Contracting Data Standard (OCDS) platform and official standard web portal that hosts so many online government services.

Others include the electronic procurement portal; SMS notification application used by Oyo State Emergency Operations Center; the education portal and so on. All relevant links, screenshots and images from each category were provided during the presentation.

At the end of all sessions, Oyo State won the Global Award for Best State in Implementing Digital Technology / Winner in Implementing National Policy and Strategy Development Pillars digital economy (NDEPS).
