Honda Motor today announced that in December 2021, the company has invested in California-based Helm.ai to strengthen its software technology development in the areas of artificial intelligence (AI) and computer vision technology .
The automaker said Helm.ai has major strengths in advanced AI-based image recognition technologies through unsupervised learning.
It was an AI software startup created in November 2016 and had been working with the automaker since 2019 through Honda Xcelerator, a global open innovation program.
Honda said it invested in Helm.ai to bolster value creation in efforts to make mobility products smarter and drive greater accomplishments faster.
The funding would further strengthen the relationship between the two companies and accelerate the development of original products for Honda that combine technology from the automaker and artificial intelligence technology from Helm.
Honda said it will continue to build relationships through the Xcelerator program with companies that have advanced technology in various fields.
