The Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy ranked Oyo State as the best in digital technology development.

The award was handed over to the state after a presentation and evaluation session during the ninth meeting of the National Council for Communications and Digital Economy in Abuja on Monday.

Other categories included digital technology and human capital development, implementation of e-government in all states, and technology infrastructure development.

Oyo won different positions in each category.

In the digital technology and human capital development category, Oyo came out first, Kebbi State came out second, while Bauchi State came out third.

In the category of implementing e-government in all states, Edo State came out first, Kaduna State came out second, while Oyo came out third.

In the technology infrastructure development category, Oyo came out first, Kaduna came out second, and Niger State came out third.

Speaking at the event, the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Professor Isa Pantami, claimed that a governor had reached out to him, asking that his state be among the winners.

He said he told the governor he had no say in who would win.

The minister said: “As the prizes were handed out to the winners, a governor from one of the states contacted me immediately. He said his state should be included among the award recipients.

“I apologized to him and said I was not part of the team reviewing what was presented. I allow the committee to do independent work.
